[SATLUG] trendnet tew-424ub with 64 bit Linux kernel

How is it possible to get the trendnet tew-424ub wireless usb network adapter working with a 64 bit Linux kernel I compiled in Ubuntu 7.10? Can I run a 32 bit ndiswrapper using the 32 bit Windows XP driver in a 32 bit chroot? I've looked for 64 bit drivers, but they are for Vista which doesn't work with ndiswrapper.

If you are able to get the 32 bit XP drivers, you can use NDISWrapper to run
them in 32 bit application space. This is similar to how the
nspluginwrapperwrapper works with 32 bit Flash on 64 bit Ubuntu.

How is that possible? I've already tried the 32 bit drivers, and it did not work. The same drivers do work with 32 bit Backtrack 2 and Backtrack 3 beta from a usb drive.

When you say 'did not work,' at what point did you have issues? Were you
able to ndiswrap the drivers, or did it fail at that point?

What makes you believe that 32 bit Windows drivers can work with a 64 bit Linux kernel. Are you saying that this person is wrong besides what I already corrected him about? Have you seen my dmesg output?

Sorry, I didn't see your dmesg output. I can see now that your device uses
the realtek 8187 chipset. Kernel 2.6.23 is supposed to have included the
RTL8187 driver. If you are on 7.10 (like me) I'm guess you're still using
2.6.22? Without upgrading the kernel, the last option I can think of is the
linuxant driver loader.

I also found what appears to be a 64 bit windows driver for that chipset at:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=1&PFid=1&Level=6&Conn=5&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false&Downloads=true

Hope that helps.
